DJing goes on even if you're at work or out there...but how?

Another interesting article I read from the same site:

You can still be DJing even if you're not in the studio / with your decks. Question is...how?
Let me share few other tips...how do I do it...
  • Spend an hour the night before burn your favourite DJ / producer's music into a CD and play it in your car while you're on the way driving to work / coming back home from work. You know the traffic in Malaysia, especially KL. If it rains or an accident occurred, you'll stuck for at least an hour or two. So why not make use of the time & train your ears with your favourite tracks / mixes instead of getting angry or honking at others. This applies also to sales people who spend alot of time driving around too. Make sense? Do it please... :) This week's favourite mix in the car goes to: http://soundcloud.com/nicolechen/i-nicole-chen-tm-s-e-x-y
  • If you're not working for any particular bank, nowadays offices are quite flexible in terms of your working style. Most magazine publishing & design houses / advertising agencies / telco companies or even retail / shopping mall outlets. You can always subscribe to: www.mixcloud.com/faith_angela , www.soundcloud.com/faith_angela , google for BBC Radio 1, or Astro Hitz TV / MTV or burn all your favourite latest tracks and familiarise yourself with it before you spin. This is also part of the DJing learning process too, yea...I'm talking about training your ears!

  • If your office allows youtube, I strongly suggest you watch at least video of your favourite DJ performing once a day. It could be also new DJ equipments demo, how they use. Just like what people always say "An apple a day, keeps doctor away". Same thing here "A video a day, you're 1 step ahead of other DJs"...knowledge wise I meant :) Here's the video of my all time favourite DJ / producer, Don Diablo...it's so damnnnn inspiring! :)

  • Skills and music knowledge is the core value as a DJ but there are also other supporting reasons a DJ must learn is FASHION! Fashion and DJ are a package. You might not agree with me...but I personally think...it's somehow quite crucial. You do not need to have a beautiful face, great body or few thousands Ringgit to spend every now and then. All you need to do is to have that FASHION SENSE that represents you.
  • For instance, the perception nowadays is that female DJ must wear low cut top & thick make ups to win the crowd. NO! Look at DJ BTraits, she's a fan of baby tshirts, jackets, sunglasses. She's still as sexy and full of atittude as herself. That's fashion!
  • Another example, every DJ / most clubbers know Daftpunk and Deadmau5. They wear simple jeans and tshirts. Their MASK is the representative of their FASHION SENSE. In short, you do not need to be rich to have this. Sit down, go window shopping and think of what do you stands for...I'm thinking about this too seriously...

Full time 'Effort' in DJing doesn't mean Full Time...

If you want to be a DJ, you better read this...
Did you see that Full time 'Effort' vs Full time? Yes, we are talking about full time 'effort' in DJing...

Many DJs in Malaysia actually have professional day time job as an advertising sales person, IT consultant, architect, runs a fashion boutique or even a restaurant. You must be thinking...where the hell these people find time for so many things...at the same time. Again, it's about how passionate are you on music and your willingness to sacrifice any other 'least' important things in your life and put it onto music / DJing.

A great article I've recently read:

I work during the day too before DJing at night...if I can do it, so why not you? Obviously it's not going to be easy. Few things that might happen to you:
  • Lesser night out with friends
  • Spending more time alone, messing with your decks at home / more time in the studio
  • If you have a NOT-SO considerate boyfriend / girlfriend, chances of breaking up is HIGH! So ask yourself, DREAM is more important or relationship.
  • Staying up late more often, either for gigs or get new tracks ready for your next gig
  • Reading up more music magazines / websites than any other materials
  • Talk, eat and sleep MUSIC!

Faith wants to SHAPE UP.Join me today!!!

Was flipping through a magazine and I found an ad featuring Xandria Ooi and Jojo Struys talking about the Nestle Fitnesse 14 day program. Simple ad but it got my attention. I read on and it just strikes me! I want to do this. And I saw another TVC on Astro Wah Lai Toi introducing the same 14 day program but this features Carmen Soo, Kellogg's Special K.
My friends said I am too skinny to get on this program. What a Silly comment! Get SHAPED UP doesn't mean you are going on a HARDCORE diet. All it says is to get a little healthier by having balanced meals! You got me people! :)
I want to start this immediately so that I am in better shape for my first professional DJ photoshoot with Baddogz Studio on 29 April.
Some friends told me Special K's product healthier and not too sweet. But I personally more attracted to Nestle Fitnesse packaging. So I decided to buy both brands and get the 14 day program started! 2 brands give me more variety in terms of taste! yay!
I am having this every morning with Goodday low fat milk. Lunch and Dinner I am still doing the normal balanced meals with friends and family. This is just my way.
The actual 14 day program works as follows:
Step 1 (Breakfast)
30g of Nestle Fitnesse with low fat milk + a bowl of fruits + a cuppa coffee/tea
Step 2 (Lunch)
Balanced Meal: vegetables + meat + fish/egg +bread + dairy products
Step 3 (Dinner)
30g of Nestle Fitnesse with low fat milk + vegetables + low fat yogurt

Besides the 14 day program, I am also doing squats (Fay Hokulani's fitness way) whenever I have the chance. Whether I'm in the office, kitchen, room, dining hall, washroom or shopping mall carpark I will do 2-3 squats. If you make it a habit, the total of squats per day you do can easily come up to 20-30 squats without working out so hard for it!
And the end result, you'll get firmer butt & toned up gorgeous sexy legs. Which woman doesn't want all these? I really look up to Karen Mok's legs. What about you?
Let's get Healthy and Shaped Up together!

Justin Bieber's Winning Way...

I'm never a fan of Justin Bieber. His "Baby" is played at least 10 times a day on all local radios for the past months. Yet still hearing callers call in to request for the same song. Even the news of him having concert in Malaysia on April 21, 2011; I just feel sooo irritated and bored with it.
Yea...but not until I watched his movie "Never Say Never" last weekend.
I cried seeing his mom cried over his success.
I cried when he fell sick yet still wants to sing for his fans.
I cried when his girls fans cried for him.
All I have to say right now is...*thumbsup* for this brilliant movie. This is such a great movie, converting his haters to fans within that 2 hours documentary show of him.

It was also first time I see movie goers clapping hands & shouted in the cinema. Amazing!
If you haven't watched, you better move your ass and learn something from there.
His love and passion of music won my heart.
His hyperactive and positive attitude brought him where he is today.
His boldness shown the truth in him, who cares even he has to performed by the roadside.
He made it!

If you ever dreamt of becoming a stand-up comedian, singer just like Justin Bieber, Miss Malaysia, a footballer or a club DJ; I strongly encourage you to do so and NEVER SAY NEVER!
I remembered when I just started DJing classes, many people came to be and say things at such;
"Stop dreaming to be a superstar DJ!"
"You've entered the dark side of life"
"Hey girl, come on wake up...DJing is not your kinda thing."
"You can't cari makan as a DJ in KL. Back to office work!"

After 3years+ of hardwork, 4hours of sleep only on a daily basis, skipping friends outings and gatherings just because I want to practice beatmatch in the studio, wakes up midnight just to download music. There were down time where I was about to give up DJing everytime I fail in competitions. There were also time I keep working towards it, not knowing what failure all about. And I'm feeling contented over what I have achieved so far:
Capital FM, 89.9 DJ Competition 2008 - 2nd Runner Up
Juice DJ Quest 2009 - Finalist
Juice DJ Quest 2009 - Readers Choice Award Winner
Heineken Found@Thirst - Finalist
Astro Hitz TV, Spinmaster 2010 - Finalist

If you really want to make a difference in your life, Do Something Now! and NEVER SAY NEVER...

Introducing...DJ Faith...

Blog is one of the greatest ways to introduce myself to everyone out there :) In case if you're wondering who i am; here's a bit of the story...

Was once wanting to be an air stewardess, unfortunately; I got kicked out at the second interview (Korean Air). This is what happened when you're too small size. They do not think I could make it to reach the luggages up there at the compartments. I love their uniform :(
Such a waste that I don't get to be part of them...
Was into HipHop dance few years back, due to heavy workload in advertising field, I skipped classes often, missed the routine and finally...gave up :( What a waste...
Took up 6 months keyboard classes, again, my uncertain / unstable advertising life fucked it up.
Then, from a hardcore drinker and clubber who often get home drunk...once realised and wanted to be up at the DJ console performs for others. The feeling of seeing people get crazy over your tunes is amazing. It's as great as you scored an A on exams.
One of my gigs image at Milk Club, Bangsar. Loved it when the club is packed!

I ended up with 10months of intensive training with Royale DJ Academy, Excessive Records KL with DJ Bryan Burger. He thought me some basic theories as a DJ i.e: getting to know the terms of turntables and CDJs, buy music online, producing mixtapes, self promo, learn different music genres, beatmatching using Vinyls and CDJs; many more.

Day passes by...at a blink of eye. It's coming to my 4th year as a DJ, 2011.
Wow! I missed the good old days at Excessive Records KL with the rest of the students.
Look out for it! :)
